Minnesota Golden Gopher head coach Jerry Kill wants guys with the right the character, attitude and passion. He also wants good football players that fit his system.
The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team signed 19 players on National Signing Day that the coaching staff hopes will fit those traits over their remaining eligibility.
Here is one of those recruits; linebacker Rayfield Dixon.
High School: Seminole Ridge (Fla.)
Hometown: Loxahatchee, Fla.
Height: 6-3
Weight: 205
My analysis: Limited viewing - gets upfield and can make plays in the backfield - good ability to get into coverage - has a nose for the football - he can play physical, but relies more on his athleticism than power - very good quickness off the edge - reads the play well - non-stop motor to the football - good athleticism; also played wide receiver in high school.
ESPN's analysis: Very active linebacker - his quickness, balance and agility make it difficult to get a hat on him - tough, wrap tackler who puts ball carriers on the turf with very little yardage after contact - displays the initial quickness needed to get off the mark - good quick hands but relies on his athleticism to beat blockers to the ball - ability to turn and change direction when in lateral pursuit - shows good range and excellent desire getting to the football - very effective as an edge rusher - displays a short burst to the quarterback - instincts and nose for the football put him in position to make big plays all over the field.
GopherSports.com Overview: Listed as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, ESPN and 247sports.com - Received a two-star rating from Scout.com - ESPN ranks him as the No. 84 outside linebacker in the nation and the No. 138 player in Florida. - Attends Seminole Ridge High School - Helped lead his team to a district title and an 8-3-1 record as a senior - Recorded 89 tackles with 16 tackles-for-loss and six sacks as a senior - Registered 75 tackles as a junior, which included 17 tackles-for-loss and five sacks - Coached by Matt Dickmann.
