Minnesota Golden Gopher head coach Jerry Kill wants guys with the right the character, attitude and passion. He also wants good football players that fit his system.
The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team signed 19 players on National Signing Day that the coaching staff hopes will fit those traits over their remaining eligibility.
Here is one of those recruits; linebacker De'Vondre Campbell.
Community College: Hutchinson (Kan.)
Hometown: Fort Myers, Fla.
Height: 6-5
Weight: 225
My analysis: Limited viewing - displays good patience in reading the play and wading through traffic - he bounces around a lot while tracking his way to the ball carrier - all the bouncing around may make him play slower than his speed - fights through traffic to make tackles.
ESPN's analysis: Active linebacker who is most effective off the edge - runs well with good range and lateral movement - will read and react to what he sees in both run and pass support - flashes the ability to slip blocks and get to the edge for support - has long arms and strong hands to drag down ball carriers - will read quarterbacks accurately in zone drops.
GopherSports.com Overview: Transferred to Minnesota from Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College - Will have three years of eligibility as a Gopher - Three-star recruit according to Scout.com, Rivals.com, ESPN and 247sports.com - Helped lead Hutchinson Community College to a 9-3 record and a win in the 2012 Salt City Bowl - Made 83 tackles (25 solo), averaging 6.9 tackles a game, with eight tackles-for-loss - Recorded 3.5 sacks, recovered a fumble and broke up four passes - Made one interception and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown - Had 17 tackles (five solo) against Navarro College - Coached by Rion Rhoades.
