Minnesota Golden Gopher head coach Jerry Kill wants guys with the right the character, attitude and passion. He also wants good football players that fit his system.
The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team signed 19 players on National Signing Day that the coaching staff hopes will fit those traits over their remaining eligibility.
Here is one of those recruits; defensive end Owen Salzwedel.
High School: Beaver Dam (Wisc.)
Hometown: Beaver Dam, Wisc.
Height: 6-6
Weight: 240
My analysis: Very limited viewing - plays a little high - breaks down well to make a tackle.
ESPN's analysis: Good size and displays the tools to be a tough edge run defender - has excellent height and carries solid bulk on his long frame - gets off the ball well - demonstrates the ability to play with good pad level - displays the ability to consistently take on blocks and hold his ground and shed to play the ball - does a good job of getting his hands up when he can't get to the quarterback and will knock down passes.
GopherSports.com Overview: Rivals.com lists him as a three-star recruit and the eighth best player in Wisconsin - Scout.com tabs him as a three-star recruit and as the 93rd best defensive end in the nation - ESPN ranks him as the 95th best defensive end in the nation and the ninth best prospect in Wisconsin - Attended Beaver Dam High School - played in eight games as a senior and recorded 89 tackles - tallied 51 unassisted tackles, 16 tackles-for-loss and 11 sacks - broke up eight passes and recovered three fumbles - coached by Tim White.
