Minnesota Golden Gopher football recruiting report; DB Jalen Myrick

Minnesota Golden Gopher head coach Jerry Kill wants guys with the right the character, attitude and passion. He also wants good football players that fit his system.

The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team signed 19 players on National Signing Day that the coaching staff hopes will fit those traits over their remaining eligibility.

Here is one of those recruits; defensive back Jalen Myrick.

High School: Savannah Christian Prep (Ga.)

Hometown: Bloomingdale, Ga.

Height: 5-10

Weight: 200

My analysis: Limited viewing - good ball skills - makes plays both with the ball in the air and in his hands - tough to tackle when he has the ball; could be a kick and punt returner in addition to corner - good build; lower body strength, maintaining a low center of gravity and balance - not a physical defender; reads and attacks routes rather than knock a receiver off rhythm - has the speed and ball skills to be a lockdown corner.

ESPN's analysis: Talented football player capable of producing big numbers on both sides of the ball - displays the foot quickness and playing speed needed to play both man and zone coverage - has the ability to make tight turns and run with deep speed - very good route awareness and ball skills when playing zone coverage - patient showing good route awareness and distribution when defending combo routes - able to make the interception at the high point, displaying outstanding ball skills - outstanding competitor.

GopherSports.com Overview: Earned a two-star ranking from Rivals.com and Scout.com - listed as the No. 49 cornerback in the nation and the No. 62 overall prospect in Georgia by ESPN - ranked as the No. 101 cornerback in the nation and the No. 97 overall prospect in Georgia by 247Sports.com - Attends Savannah Christian Prep - led the team to an 8-4 record in 2012 after going a perfect 11-0 as a junior in 2011 - excelled on offense and defense as a senior - made 25 tackles as a junior with 14 pass break ups and two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown - also had 15 offensive touchdowns as a junior - coached by former Georgia Bulldog and San Francisco 49ers draft pick Donald Chumley - standout track athlete at Savannah Christian Prep, finishing as the state runner-up in the 100m as a junior.
