The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team signed 27 players on National Signing Day.
Now we need to find out who the recruits are and how they will fit into the Gopher program.
Here is athlete Duke Anyanwu.
High School: Blaine
Hometown: Blaine, Minnesota
Height: 6-4
Weight: 230
My analysis: He has very good athleticism and speed for his size - he does not have great straight line speed, but accelerates quickly - he has very good hands and uses them to catch the ball - he is a physical blocker, but is not physical when he has the ball - he uses the spin move more often than trying to run over smaller defensive backs - he could be a matchup problem from for linebackers and safeties - he is a liability as a passer, but is effective as an inside runner.
GopherSports.com overview: Ranked as the No. 17 player in Minnesota and the No. 289 wide receiver in the nation by ESPN - earned a two-star ranking from both Rivals.com and Scout.com - lined up as a linebacker, quarterback and receiver in high school and showed the ability to produce at each position - solid coverage skills as a linebacker - good tackling ability could prove beneficial in special teams coverage units - as a receiver, shows ability as a big possession receiver - capable of working inside, taking a hit and securing the catch - does a good job finding an open spot in the defense - good hands, with the ability to adjust to balls thrown out of the frame.
High School:Currently attends Blaine High School - helped lead his team to an 8-3 record as a senior - Blaine advanced to section championship game in 2011 - earned Honorable Mention All-State honors at the All-Purpose position - completed 101-of-174 passes for 926 yards with 5 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as a senior - rushed for 1,130 yards on 199 carries with 18 touchdowns in 2011 - coached by Shannon Gerrety.
