Minnehaha Academy Redhawks beat Perham Yellowjackets

Jesse Johnson scored 13 points and led a balanced scoring attack for the top seeded Minnehaha Academy Redhawks as they beat the Perham Yellowjackets 53-41 Wednesday night in the Class AA quarterfinals at Target Center in Minneapolis.

Thomas Gedion got the Redhawk offense going by scoring the game's first four points. Minnehaha Academy started the game on a 9-0 run that ended on Jordan Hein's three pointer that broke a 7:02 scoring drought for Perham. The Yellowjackets wnt on a 5-0 run bfeore Marcellous Hazzard hit a three point play. Perham made a comeback as junior guard Tylwr Glines scored eight straight points, including two off a steal. They came close when Nick Bahls hit a three pointer. Minnehaha Academy led at the half 27-23.

Johnson started the Redhawk scoring :48 into the second half with a three pointer. Minnehaha Academy showed it's physical style in the post when Jahleel Davis scored on a third chance rebound. . Glines cut the lead to four but Minnehaha Academy played solid defense, including a block by Gedion that became a basket. Josh Pryor sparked a 7-0 Redhawk run with a three pointer aand they pulled away from Perham to advance into Friday night's semifinals at 6 PM.

Johnson was the only Minnehaha Academy player in double figures.Gedion had 10 rebounds and three blocks. Glines led Perham with 15 points.

It was the earliest exit for Perham, who won the 2011 state Class AA ttil. Last year, they finished third and this year they concluded their season with a 23-8 record.
