Jan. 16, 2013 was the first night of ‘American Idol’ and it definitely lived up to the hype as promised by Ryan Seacrest during his interview to ‘The Today Show’ on the morning of Jan. 16, 2013. The first auditions took place in New York and ‘The Big Apple’ delivered. There were some experienced singers who came to audition and tripped over themselves, which caused them to blow their shot at fame and fortune for this season. Many contestants had great stories that they shared with Seacrest. Surprisingly, this season the judges are not sending contestant through simply because they have a sob story to share. It will be interesting to see what happens on ‘American Idol’ this year.

According to E!Online, the judging panel was able to judge those in costumes, in short skirts, and even each other. While the contestants put on an amazing show, the cattiness between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey took the show. The two seemed as if everything the other one did absolutely drove the other one insane. Minaj pretended that she was going to strangle Carey at one point. She also joked that one horrible contestant had the range of Carey. The ladies proceeded to go back and forth throughout the night with poor Keith Urban stuck between them. Urban and Randy Jackson just chuckled as the ladies had something to say about one another again and again. By the end of the show, Carey and Minaj seemed as if they would be able to at least tolerate one another for a little bit longer. Some of the teasers for ‘American Idol’ show Seacrest interviewing more wild characters, Carey and Minaj bickering yet again, and Urban saying that he feels like a scratching post.
