The workshop, "Your Spiritual Journey," was part of a retreat hosted by First Antioch Baptist Church in Powhatan, Virginia where the pastor is Rev. Vera Rhyne.
Several community churches came together for the occasion with over 40 women present who came expecting a blessing from the Lord.
First, Rev. Minnicks said she chose the word "journey" rather then the word "trip" because usually the word "journey" is used in Bible when people moved from one place to another having a specific purpose as in Paul's three missionary journeys.
The workshop leader invited the group to do some self-examination and self-evaluation in order to reach spiritual maturity.
Participants were instructed to chart where they believed they were on a scale from 0 to 10. No one said they were at 0, and no one said they were at 10. Most people admitted they were at 5 or 6 in their spiritual development, but they agreed that by the end of the teaching, they would probably move up some numbers instead of moving backward.
In order to grow spiritually, Rev. Minnicks told the women they should "break up their fallow ground" to prepare for sowing seeds in order to yield a bountiful harvest.
