On Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, Dan Bradley preached his initial sermon at New Canaan Worship Center in Richmond, Virginia where the pastors are Rev. Louis Blakey, Jr. and Rev. Lois Blakey-Paige.
Bradley preached "From Image to Identity" based on Genesis 1:26-27.
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
The candidate for a license gave a brief testimony about how he grew up thinking others had a great image that he wanted to imitate. Two examples he mentioned were a drug dealer and a flashy pastor. He said he wanted to be like them until he came to the realization that he had been made in God's own image and not in the image of others.
Since Bradley is a musician, he became transparent by saying he has been hiding behind his music, but now God is transforming him into stepping out and being his authentic self.
Bradley concluded that the only image that matters is the one God made him into. He also said that people talk about identity theft; however, people can't take away what God has made us to be. While man or woman can steal our social security numbers, credit card numbers and other things in the natural, they can't steal the identity God has given us.
Bradley told the congregation, "Recognize who you are and where you are going." Then he invited anybody who was struggling with their image to come to the altar for prayer. He also encouraged those to come forward who were struggling with their identity.
After the sermon, Bradley was given a certificate indicating that he is now licensed to preach the gospel. As Pastor Blakey presented the certificate to Minister Bradley, he said he was like a proud father. Additionally, he said God had already called Minister Bradley, and he was just putting the stamp of approval on it.
Afterward Minister Dan Bradley and his wife, Rev. Wendy Bradley were received by the congregation.
Congratulations, Minister Dan Bradley!
