The Inland Empire Gardeners will be holding their next meeting on May 1, 2014. The meeting will feature a talk by Janit Calvo titled “The Huge World of Miniature Gardening”. Calvo owns and runs Two Green Thumbs Miniature Garden Center in Seattle, has received many garden show awards. Her talk will include what plants are suitable for miniature gardens, both indoor and outside; as well as design, styles and themes. She will include a slide show that shows what the miniature plants look like after several years in the ground.

Calvo is the author of ‘Gardening in Miniature: Create Your Own Tiny Living World’ (Timber Press 2013), a complete guide to tiny scale gardens. The book includes garden designs, techniques for working in this scale, care and maintenance, choosing containers, buying the right plants and where to find in-scale accessories. There are step by step projects that will teach you basic skills, and charts of plants that work as trees, shrubs and bedding plants in sun or shade.
