Microsoft have announced that Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will be released on Friday, Sept. 5 for digital download from the Xbox Store. According to a press release issued by the company on Sept. 2, those with Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition can upgrade to Minecraft: Xbox One for just $4.99, and all previously purchased downloadable content can be re-downloaded for free. New players can purchase the full game for $19.99.

Minecraft: Xbox One Edition features worlds up to 36 times larger than those available on Xbox 360. Players can transfer their worlds and content from Minecraft: Xbox 360 to the Xbox One version so you don’t have to start your adventure over again. With more than 13 million players, the Minecraft community of Xbox Live is consistently creating new and exciting creations. Explore the worlds Minecraft: Xbox One with up to eight players over Xbox Live.

While the digital version will be released on Friday, those that prefer to buy a physical copy of the game will have to wait a bit longer, sadly. Microsoft announced today that a full game packaged version will be available on store shelves this holiday. No exact date of release has been announced, but expect the title be available for $19.99 at retail later this year.

Minecraft: Xbox One Edition features a number of new features. With visuals rendered at a native resolution of 1080p and 60 frames per second, the worlds of Minecraft will look and feel more alive. Find a comprehensive breakdown of them below:

  • Transfer your favorite Xbox 360 Edition worlds and content packs across to the Xbox One Edition
  • Share the experience with 4 players split-screen on one console or up to 8 players over Xbox Live.
  • Bigger worlds, faster draw time, and greater draw distance
  • Native 1080p at 60 FPS
  • The widest range of downloadable content on a console

Minecraft for home consoles was originally released for Xbox 360 in May 2012. The game has gone on to sell more than 10 million copies worldwide. Find additional information concerning future DLC and content here.
