Skin Pack 6 for “Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition” is finally ready to release following a full week of teasing. 4J Studios and Microsoft confirmed Tuesday that the pack will become available Wednesday, June 25 and feature many more skins than have been teased so far. Of course, one of those skins is the ultimate tease of what is coming in a future console update to the popular sandbox title.
“Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition” owners will be able to pick up Skin Pack 6 from the Xbox Store for $1.99 starting early Wednesday morning, according to a Twitter post from 4J Studios. They made the announcement along with the release of a preview video by YouTuber Bigbst4tz2 that shows off each of the new skins, starting with the horse skin.
Yes, there are still no actual horses in the console version of “Minecraft” yet but at least you can now dress up like one. Not that anyone will try to ride you.
All hope is not lost on the “Minecraft” horse front though. 4J Studios did confirm that the much requested mob will be added to “PS3 and other consoles…eventually.”
The developer is currently focused on the release of “Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition,” “Xbox One Edition” and “PS Vita Edition” this August. It’s likely that horses will follow in an update sometime after that.
It’s already confirmed that “Minecraft” Skin Pack 6 will include characters from “Killer Instinct,” “Super Time Force,” “Mirror’s Edge,” State of Decay,” “Trials Fusion” and “Dragon Age.” There are more skins added to the pack beyond the ones based on game characters or the horse.
Other skins include the Villager Priest, Butcher, Librarian, Blacksmith and Zombie. There’s also a Teen Girl and Teen Boy plus U.S. Soldier, British Special Forces, U.S. Special Forces and Russian Special Forces. Naturally, the military skins need someone to oppose them so there’s also a Modern Pirate, Anarchist Rioter, Rebel Fighter and Republican Guard.
The “Minecraft: Xbox One Edition” is still on track for an August 2014 release along with the “PS4 Edition” and “PS Vita Edition.” No exact release date has been set yet but upgrading from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One or PS3 to the PS4 will only cost $5. The PS Vita Edition will be a free upgrade to existing “Minecraft: PS3 Edition” owners.
Texture packs and mash-up packs that purchased for the current “Minecraft” releases can be used with the upcoming releases too. The majority of the packs will transfer over to the next-gen consoles with the exception of the Marvel -themed packs due to licensing issues. Existing world saves will transfer over to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of “Minecraft” from the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well.
