After Minecraft creator Markus Persson recently announced that the PC version of the popular block building game has sold 14 million copies, sales of the original console edition of the game on Xbox 360 don’t fall too far behind after 4J Studios confirmed on Feb 4 that Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has now reached a new milestone with over 11 million copies sold.
Despite the fact that the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft launched years after the release of its PC counterpart, gamers have obviously jumped at the opportunity to play the title on home consoles since sales of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition are rapidly approaching those of the PC version. Furthermore, the PS3 edition of Minecraft managed to sale one million copies within its first month of release.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is now available as a digital download via Xbox Live Arcade. Retail versions may also be purchased in stores after the game received a physical disc release in the summer of 2013. Making the game available in multiple formats is one of the contributing factors that have helped pushed sales forward within such a short time frame.
