'Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition' passes 5 million in sales, January patch coming

"Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition" continues to be a success for 4J Studios and Mojang as the developers revealed the latest sales figures Thursday. The popular open-world sandbox game also has a patch in the works for January following the release of title update 7 in December.

On New Year's Eve, "Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition" passed five million in sales bringing the total number of copies sold across the Xbox 360, PC and smartphone closer to the 20 million mark. Mojang said in December that 5 million copies of the "Pocket Edition" were sold and 8 million of the PC version by November. Almost half a million copies of the PC version were purchased on Christmas Day alone so the franchise should be around or past 20 million with the latest Xbox 360 numbers.

4J Studios did confirm that a new update is coming in January to fix all the bugs found in title update 7. This includes making sure that newly created worlds are always populated with a Nether Fortress, Blazes and Nether Wart.

An more specific time frame for the next "Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition" update has not been announced beyond January.
