4J Studios’ Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ can now handle in-game texture packs thanks to system support that was added inside Title Update 12. While the first texture released was part of the game’s Mass Effect mash-up pack, the developer has confirmed that there will also be non-licensed textures coming in the future. Furthermore, as reported by OXM on Sept 6, 4J Studios has announced their desire to bring the many existing texture packs found on the PC version of Minecraft over to the Xbox 360 edition now that the console title can support their application.
However, the developer revealed that this isn’t a simple process of porting each PC texture pack to the Xbox 360 since each pack is user-created content and so Microsoft’s legal team must find the right form of attribution to legally credit these individuals for their creations before their texture packs can appear on the Xbox 360.
Title Update 12 for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is now available for download. The free patch added the ability for fans to install texture packs to the console version of the game. The first pack was released as part of the Mass Effect mash-up pack which transforms the title into a celebration of Bioware’s space epic.
