4J Studios released the first mash-up pack for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition earlier this week which converted the game’s visuals and sound into a block-based homage to Bioware’s Mass Effect 3. However, the developer revealed on Sept 4 that the next release for the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft will only include a texture pack instead of a full mash-up release.
A texture pack add-on will simply alter the look of the game’s world while mash-up packs also add additional skins, a modified user interface, and a different score. As such this upcoming texture pack will likely just be an alternate visual choice instead of a licensed theme. That means that fans can expect to see a texture pack release much quicker than a game converting mash-up pack as there will be no legal concerns over using another company’s intellectual property.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition‘s first mash-up pack is now available for download. The addition of both texture and mash-up packs were made possible with the recent release of Title Update 12.
