“Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition” just can’t seem to get enough skins. Electronic Arts revealed Wednesday that Xbox 360 owners will be able to play as Faith as part of Skin Pack 6 for “Minecraft” long before “Mirror’s Edge 2” is released for the Xbox One.
The “Minecraft” image released shows a clever use of the City Texture Pack to recreate the dystopian future city that Faith parkours through. The Faith Skin nicely captures the tattoo under her right eye and, the tattoo on her right arm and the distinctive single-red glove.
“Minecraft” Skin Pack 6 for the Xbox 360 will contain not only Faith but also characters from “Trials Fusion” and “Killer Instinct,” as announced by PlayXBLA. Two of the motorcycle stunt riders will be available along with all eight characters from Season One of the Xbox One free-to-play fighter – Jago, Sabrewulf, Glacius, Thunder, Sadira, B. Orchid, Spinal and Fulgore.
A release date has not yet been announced for the new “Minecraft” skin pack but it will likely be in the next couple of weeks. The usual routine from Microsoft and developer 4J Studios is to tease new skins for at least a week and then release them the week afterward for a dollar or two on the Xbox Store.
The “Minecraft: Xbox One Edition” is still on track for an August 2014 release along with the “PS4 Edition” and “PS Vita Edition.” No exact release date has been set yet but upgrading from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One or PS3 to the PS4 will only cost $5. The PS Vita Edition will be a free upgrade to existing “Minecraft: PS3 Edition” owners.
If you’re worried about all of the skin packs, texture packs and mash-up packs that you’ve purchased for the current “Minecraft” version, don’t be. The majority of the packs will transfer over to the next-gen consoles with the exception of the Marvel –themed packs due to licensing issues. Existing world saves will transfer over to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of “Minecraft” from the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well.
