While 4J Studios continues to remove bugs from Title Update 14 so that it can be released for the console editions of Minecraft as soon as possible, the developer revealed on March 14 that they also hope to launch multiple texture pack add-ons for the Playstation 3 when TU14 becomes available on the Sony console.

The developer took to Twitter to make the following announcement which confirmed their intentions to release new DLC for Minecraft: PS3 Edition which launched at the end of 2013.

We're aiming to release one or two PS3 texture packs at the same time as the TU14 update for PS3.

The DLC that is planned to launch for the Playstation 3 version of Minecraft alongside Title Update 14 would be the first add-on content released on the PS3 thus far. It is likely that the upcoming DLC will simply bring one of the packs that have previously come out for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition to the PS3, but 4J Studios isn’t giving any details on the texture packs other than saying that they hope to have them out soon.

Minecraft texture packs allow console fans to alter the in-game appearance of the sandbox creation title as the add-ons change the look of block textures, provide new user-interface setups, and alter the visuals of the game’s NPC and monster models. These packs provide the only method that players have on home consoles to change in-game textures since, unlike the PC version of the game, Minecraft can’t be modded on Xbox 360 and PS3.

In addition to releasing multiple texture packs for Minecraft: PS3 Edition, 4J Studios has also teased the first skin pack release for the PS3 version of the game. Unlike texture packs, which change the entire world of Minecraft, skin pack add-ons provide a series of new avatar choices that give gamers options to play as different popular gaming characters. In honor of the game’s release on PS3, the developer is working on releasing one such DLC that includes various skins depicting characters from Sony-exclusive titles such as Uncharted and Sly Cooper.
