Minecraft was released for PC in Nov. of 2011 and quickly gained a following of loyal supporters. Soon after finding success on PC, Minecraft made its home console debut with the release of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition for Xbox Live Arcade. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, developed by 4J Studios, was released on May 9, 2012 as an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive. A retail copy of Minecraft for Xbox 360 would see release in the summer of 2013.

Since its 2012 debut, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has sold more than 10 million copies. You can find an official statement from Persson and Microsoft below:

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has just reached a tremendous milestone: 10 million copies sold!

Having garnered success on PC and Xbox 360 - with sales combined nearly 25 million, one should expect sales of Minecraft to reach even greater heights when Minecraft releases on PS3, PS4, PS Vita, and Xbox One. Minecraft: PS4 Edition and the rest are currently being developed by 4J Studios.

Recently, the studio revealed that Minecraft is running on PS4 and Xbox One, but a lot of work remains.

The game is running on both Xbox One and PS4, but there’s a lot more work to do on both. No dates for either yet.

The company has not yet announced a release date.
