There are numerous DLC add-ons currently available for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition which brings players new avatar appearances in addition to allowing fans to completely retexture the entire in-game world. According to a post from the official Playstation Blog on Dec 16 announcing the release of the PS3 version of Minecraft, it was revealed that Playstation 3 owners will also be receiving the same DLC packs as the title’s developer has confirmed that the add-ons will be made available for purchase soon after this week’s official release of Minecraft: PS3 Edition. Furthermore, the possibility that the game will introduce skin packs featuring Playstation-exclusive characters is a possibility in the future.
4J Studios, the same developers that are responsible for the hit Xbox 360 version of the block-building title, recently announced their intention to focus on releasing Minecraft on PS3. This resulted in next-gen version of the game to become delayed, thus not being available as Xbox One and PS4 launch titles as originally intended. Now that Minecraft: PS3 Edition is launching this Tuesday, it is likely that the developer will now focus on completing versions of Minecraft on the recently released next-gen consoles as well as planned PS Vita edition.
No exact release date was given for when the DLC will become ready for download on the PS3 version of Minecraft other than stating that players can expect the content soon. 4J Studios specifically revealed that both the skin and texture packs will be heading to the Playstation 3. No mention was made of the mash-up packs which introduce content from other popular gaming franchises such as Mass Effect and The Elder Scrolls, but it is expected that these licensed add-ons will also be making their way to the PS3 shortly.
