Launching just over a month ago, Minecraft: PS3 Edition has already reached a sales milestone after Mojang announced on Jan 24 that the new version of the sandbox creation title has officially sold more than 1 million copies. This proves that gamers love Minecraft regardless of what platform it appears on since sales of existing versions of the game are also still going strong. In December it was revealed that Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition had sold over 10 million copies while the PC version of the game had climbed well above 13 million sales.
4J Studios, who handles porting Minecraft to home consoles, is also currently working on next-gen editions of the game which will release on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. In a move that will likely also help sell even more copies of on the PS3, the developer also recently announced that they are also creating a secret texture pack release for Minecraft: PS3 Edition. It is unknown at this time if this will be one of the add-ons which were previously released on the Xbox 360 edition or if PS3 owners will be getting a brand-new texture pack.
In honor of the remarkable first month of sales on the PS3, Mojang’s Daniel Kaplan reached out to the game’s fans to offer the following thank you for their support.
We are super grateful for the support and we are very thankful for your dedication and I hope you will like the future updates we have planned for you
Minecraft: PS3 Edition is now available as a digital-only download from the Playstation Store.
