'Minecraft: PS3 Edition' coming this week, PS4 and PS Vita versions in the works

The virtual block building blockbuster is sharing its love, yet again, with the PlayStation 3 this week. PlayStation 4 and handheld versions in development.

Minecraft, the indie game success that refuses to go away, is coming to PS3 on the PlayStation Network tomorrow, developer, Mojang confirmed today. Available as a downloadable title, Minecraft: PS3 Edition will have all the bells and whistles of other console versions and perhaps more.

“On December 17th in North America,” PS3 owners will be able to download the open world block builder, confirmed Owen Hill of Mojang via the official PlayStation blog site. The PS3 version of Minecraft will be will be developed in tandem with all other console versions, Hill added.

Shortly after its PSN debut, Mojang will be releasing downloadable skin and texture packs. As for special, exclusive PS3 content goes, Hill urged fans to keep their “fingers crossed.”

Hill did confirm PS4 and PlayStation Vita versions are in development and will release sometime next year. Whether or not these builds will feature remote or compatible play with the PS3 edition is unknown, but Hill assured that information will come as soon as they know.

Minecraft: PS3 Edition will be available for download tomorrow (Dec. 17) in North America, Wednesday, Dec. 18 in Europe.
