It would seem that Minecraft is as popular as ever. Showing strong sales on Xbox 360 in recent NPD reports, the game has found a strong following of fans on both PC, mobile devices, and Xbox 360. On Sept. 3, IGN reported that Minecraft has achieved a new milestone with more than 12 million copies sold on the PC – as noted on the official Minecraft stats page.
In June 2013, Mojang announced that the PC version had sold 11 million copies with lifetime sales across all platforms passing 22 million. This means Minecraft has sold 1 million copies on PC over the last couple months.
Mojang told IGN that lifetime sales of Minecraft has passed 33 million copies – over 8 million copies of Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition have been sold.
Mojang’s popular title will be increasing its platform presence in the near future when the game sees release on Microsoft’s Xbox One and follows with release on Sony’s PS3, PS4, and PS Vita – the game remains unannounced for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
Minecraft was originally released for PC in 2011.
