‘Minecraft’ DLC is half priced on Xbox 360 this weekend only

In celebration of the second anniversary of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, 4J Studios is offering a sale on most of the game’s DLC packs for the remainder of the weekend. The developer announced on May 8 that all skin and texture packs for the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft are half off until Monday. The sale excludes mash-up packs and all add-ons featuring Marvel Comics characters such as the recent Spider-Man Skin Pack release.

As the oldest version of Minecraft to appear on home consoles, the Xbox 360 edition of the sandbox creation title has received many more DLC add-ons that its Playstation 3 counterpart. As such, this weekend’s sale is a great opportunity for fans to try to catch up on many of the title’s downloadable packs at a cheap price.

Nearly all skin and texture pack releases are being offered at discounted prices in honor of the second birthday of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition. Skin packs give players the opportunity to change the visual appearance of their in-game avatar. Past DLC releases have provide the option to play as characters from the Borderlands, Halo, and Assassin’s Creed franchises as well as original skins from the animal kingdom. Texture packs, however, focus on the world around the player character and alter the visual look of the world’s blocks themselves.

First launched two years ago, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition started a console tradition for the game that has now expanded to the Playstation 3 and will soon land on next-gen platforms. 4J Studios is currently developing version of the popular game for release on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PS Vita. Fans will be able to import their existing world saves to the next-gen versions when they release. Additionally, the developer has confirmed that the upcoming games will utilize new features such as the touchpad on the PS4’s DualShock 4 controller.
