Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson addressed recent rumors Friday that a Wii U version of the popular open-world sandbox game was in the works. While he did put the kibosh on the rumor, he did leave a glimmer of hope for owners of the Nintendo console.
"I am not aware of any plans to release a Wii U version of Minecraft," Persson stated on Twitter account.
Indeed they do have too much work already as Scottish developer 4J Studios has been tasked with developing the Minecraft console ports. It has been supporting the Xbox 360 Edition since May 2012 and just released the PS3 version last week with plenty more bugs yet to be fixed. That's not all though as PS4, Xbox One and even a PS Vita version are all still planned for release in 2014.
4J Studios is a relatively small studio and managing the ports and maintenance on five different versions of the game is likely very taxing on its limited resources. Even if Mojang and Nintendo came to an agreement, it would be a very long time before the game was released as it would be in the very back of the line.
Still, one can't deny the potential benefits of playing Minecraft with the Wii U Gamepad.
