As part of a plethora of title announcements during its Gamecom presentation, Sony announced that Mojang's Minecraft would be available on the Playstation 4 as a launch title with PS3 and PS Vita versions planned as well.
This is a surprising announcement as Microsoft has had console exclusivity locked up for the Xbox 360 and presumably with the Xbox One. Creator Markus Persson confirmed the announcement on Twitter by simply stating, "Minecraft+Sony=true."
This represents a huge coup for Sony as Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has sold over eight million copies alone. Details on the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita versions of the game have not been announced so it's not clear if 4J Studios is working on the port or another studio. Additionally, it is unknown if it will share features more akin with the console version or the PC version.
Minecraft has turned out to be insanely successfully as it is currently closing in on 30 million copies sold between PC, consoles and tablet versions. Expect more details on what come with the PS4 version soon.
