Mindy Tran's speed bump incident could have cost her twin daughters their lives. However, thanks to the heroic actions of 22-year-old Mindy Tran, her twins are alive and well after the Mass. woman used herself as a “speed bump” to stop her car from rolling into traffic, ABC News reported on March 18.
The almost tragic speed bump incident occurred when Tran backed her Honda into the garage, put it in park and got out to lock her front door. Unfortunately, the vehicle was not put in park as she thought and it started rolling down the hill while her 2-year-old twins were buckled in the backseat of the vehicle.
When Tran saw the car moving, she immediately took action. She threw herself in front of the car, using her body as a “human speed bump,” in order to stop it from rolling into traffic. “I laid down horizontally, using my body as a speed bump to stop the car,” Tran told ABC News.
A neighbor noticed what was happening and he jumped in the car and pulled the hand brake.
“My neighbor jumped in and he asked what I wanted them to do,” she said. “I said make sure my daughter’s got out of the car safely.”
The woman had to be rescued by firefighters and was taken to hospital with a broken leg and dislocated shoulder and hip. Currently, she must use a wheelchair and will undergo surgery as well as physical therapy.
Regarding the Mindy Tran speed bump incident, Fire Department Chief John Marsh said...“We’ve seen something like this before. It is an unfortunate accident and somehow her car wasn’t in gear.”
The Mindy Tran speed bump story has since gone viral and in an interview, Tran explained her reason for taking such drastic measures: “My daughters are my everything…and I don’t want to see them in the hospital, and I knew at that time it was either mine or theirs,” she said.
