Mindy McCready’s apparent suicide at the age of 37 on Sunday is leaving two young sons without their mother and thousands of fans without a well-known country singer who was known for hits like “Ten Thousand Angels” and “Guys Do It All the Time.”
Despite Mindy McCready’s ongoing personal troubles which overshadowed her country music career with “her string of late-'90s hits,” USA Today reports on Feb. 18, 2013, that the news about Mindy McCready’s death is touching members of the country music community deeply.
Via Twitter, Carrie Underwood wrote, “I grew up listening to Mindy McCready …so sad for her family tonight. Many prayers are going out to them."
Wynonna Judd wrote in several tweets, "Addiction is a dis EASE & not a character flaw. When the pain becomes too much, it causes people to want that pain to stop. This is just so Unbelievable."
Chely Wrigth tweeted, "Really really sad to learn the news about Mindy McCready. I will pray for her children and I hope that people are gentle with her memory."
During the past ten years, Mindy McCready made several headlines for her problems with painkillers, fake prescription, identity theft, battery and violating probation.
According to Sheriff Marty Moss, police officers were called to Mindy McCready’s home around 3:30 p.m. local time in Heber Springs, Ark., after neighbors heard gunshots. Upon arrival at Mindy McCready’s Arkansas home at 3:58 p.m., officers found Mindy McCready’s body on the front porch.
While the case is still under investigation and Mindy McCready’s body is to be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy, Cleburne County Sheriff Marty Moss said that Mindy McCready died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"’Ms. McCready is deceased from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.’ Moss told USA TODAY.”
Only last month, on Jan. 13, 2013, Mindy McCready’s boyfriend, record producer David Wilson, had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the same front porch where Mindy McCready died on Sunday. Shortly after David Wilson’s death, Mindy McCready entered rehab. Her death comes only days after she was released from rehab last week.
David Wilson’s and Mindy McCready’s son Zayne was born last April. Zander, who is Mindy McCready’s son from a previous relationship, is six years old.
According to a Mail Online report on Feb. 18, 2013, “Her two children - Zander, age 6, and Zayne, age 9 months - had been placed in foster care and were not home at the time of her death.”
