It would seem no one was surprised by the sudden death of this star.

The apparent suicide of Mindy McCready is not too much of a surprise to her former lovers.

Actor Dean McCain, who was engaged to the troubled country star in 1997, has spoken out in the days since the singer’s body was discovered on her front porch, the same porch where her fiancé, David Wilson, had died of an apparent suicide the previous month. The couple had a 9-month-old son, Zayne.

"I'm saddened to hear of her passing, but I'm not surprised," Cain told People.

Neither is Billy McKnight, McCready's former boyfriend and father of her 6-year-old son, Zander. He has he was "not shocked," and that she shouldn't have been allowed out of rehab mere days before her apparent suicide due to her past and the amount of pain she was going through. She allegedly shot her dog before shooting herself on the porch.

The 46-year-old met McCready 15 years ago after the end of his successful run as Superman in “Lois & Clark.”

While it is widely known McCready struggled with substance and alcohol abuse for decades, that wasn’t what caused the young couple to separate after living together and becoming engaged.

"She was never abusive or addictive with me, but red flags were everywhere," he said. "I saw all the bad signs and told her to get out…Everything she did was a manipulation of sorts. She would just get combative."

He later decided to cut off any contact with McCready after having a son of his own. Cain, who is currently single, is a doting father, which is what lingers with him now as he works through his own grief over the passing of a former friend and lover.

"My first thought was of the poor kids. To think about the legacy those boys have been left, it's just tragic,” Cain said. “All her troubles were self-inflicted. She had everything. She was a tremendous talent but everything about it was a waste."
