Mindy McCready shooting her dog was just plain wrong

News stories are reporting that Mindy McCready, before allegedly shooting herself in suicide, shot and killed her dog. An alleged friend says this wasn't an act of malice, and that McCready didn't want to leave her dog alone. Sorry, I'm not buying it. It was a totally self-centered and despicable act for a country artist who lead a pretty shabby life. A quick reading of the history of her life on Wikipedia reveals a real life character who is much like the fictional character parodied by Brad Paisley in his song “Celebrity.” McCready seems to have done just about all of that perhaps even wrecking the Ferrari on the way to rehab.

The song is about celebrities and would be celebrities getting famous on so-called reality shows and making the headlines in celebrity scandal tabloid publications and shows. As the Wikipedia article reports, McCready lived this life. “In June 2009, McCready signed on to appear on the reality series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. The series aired and depicted her struggle with substance addiction.[10] She later discussed her recovery and possible studio work with Todd Gaither on a March 2010 episode of The View.”

“When you're celebrity, it's adios reality,” Paisley sings in the song. McCready's life was clearly a case study in this. She has had affairs with several men and reportedly made at least two other suicide attempts before the latest apparent attempt just two days ago. Her last couple albums were commercial failures and she was dropped by two different record companies for lack of sales.

McCready has had a number of legal problems related to drug abuse and a fight with her mom and other issues. It brings to mind another line of the song. “I'll get community service, no matter which law I break,” Paisley sings in the song “Celebrity.” On multiple occasions she was sentenced to jail time as well as hundreds of hours of community service.

One doesn't live this kind of life due to bad luck or just hanging out with the wrong people. One lives this kind of life because they lack the kind of basic moral values that give most of us guidance on how to avoid problems with drugs, violence, booze, etc. Jail and rehabilitation doesn't always seem to make a difference if the individual never accepts that what they have been doing is wrong and make real efforts to mend their ways.

The killing of the dog was a totally self-centered act in a totally self-centered and morally bankrupt life lead for decades by Mindy McCready. That cruel was nothing but an act of malice. Just because McCready's life was completely messed up and in the gutter it doesn't mean that poor dog should have sentenced to the death penalty. That act should be McCready's legacy. She quite selfishly killed that innocent dog before selfishly ending her own broken and morally empty life.
