Mindy McCready kills herself and dog: Children safe in foster care (Photos)

On Sunday, Feb. 17, the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office confirmed the death of country music star Mindy McCready. Reports are the deeply troubled star died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head following the death of her lover, David Wilson, the father of her infant son, Zayne. Wilson apparently committed suicide in the same manner only a month previous.

McCready's two sons, Zayne and Zander, are currently in foster care and were not with McCready. Although it seems unspeakable, there is no way to know if the judge who removed her children from her home on Feb. 6, saved their lives; however, TMZ is reporting that McCready also shot and killed her dog. TMZ wrote, "A source close to McCready tells TMZ ... McCready shot herself and her dog. Neighbors reported hearing the two gunshots."

Update: Mindy McCready's sons may be torn apart if custody case succeeds

The following release from the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office provides details:

"At 3:31 PM, Sunday, February 17th Deputies from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of gun shots fired in the area of 1132 Fox Chase Drive in Heber Springs. Officers arrived on the scene at 3:58 PM and discovered the body of 37-year-old Melinda Gayle McCready on the front porch of the residence at 1132 Fox Chase. Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. At this time family members have been notified of the incident. Ms. McCready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the matter will be fully investigated."

McCready's last haunting tweet was to a concerned fan. She wrote,"@dancinjake Things have been hectic. But I'm still here." The title of her fifth and final album was, "I'm still here." Many celebrities who awaken to learn of and mourn McCready's death will be sounding off on Twitter. Twitchy is collecting their tributes.
