Just two days ago, country music artist Mindy McCready was reported as having died from a self-inflicted gun shot would and had reportedly shot and killed her dog before turning the gun on herself. A story reported today by FoxNews.com cites an unnamed friend of the country singer as saying the shooting of the dog was not an “act of malice.”
The Fox article also said about McCready, “Mindy hasn’t gotten any breaks in months. First David, then the kids, then rehab,” a source close to the country star told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column. “She’s been up and down in recent times. But after David, it was just too hard for her to bounce back.”
McCready's alleged boyfriend, record producer David Wilson, died a month ago of an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound. Just a few days ago, as a precaution, her two sons were removed from her home on February 6 of this year on a judge's order. Also, McCready was committed to rehabilitation for examinations for mental health and alcohol abuse and released two days later.
McCready has had a long history of issues with male partners including one that was charged with attempted murder, and legal problems related to substance abuse and other issues. In 2007 she served time in jail for battery and resisting arrest after an alleged fight with her mom in Ft. Myers, Florida.
The following is a statement released by Cleburne County Sheriff's office, in Arkansas where McCready lived:
"At 3:31 PM, Sunday, February 17th Deputies from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of gun shots fired in the area of 1132 Fox Chase Drive in Heber Springs. Officers arrived on the scene at 3:58 PM and discovered the body of 37 year old Melinda Gayle McCready on the front porch of the residence at 1132 Fox Chase. Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. At this time family members have been notified of the incident. Ms. McCready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the matter will be fully investigated."
