Just a month after her boyfriend, David Wilson, took his own life, Mindy McCready has decided that life was too much without him. On Feb.17 Mindy took her own life; leaving behind two young sons, according to People magazine. Nine month-old Zayne has lost his father and now his mother. Six year-old Zander knows his father, ex-boyfriend Billy McKnight.
When Wilson, 35, was found dead, McCready released a statement that her "soulmate" was a “gift from God” and that his death meant he was ready to return home to be with his father and mother. His death was reported on Jan. 14. On Jan. 19 speculation circled that somehow Mindy was connected to Wilson’s death. While the death was officially ruled a suicide, CPS was still brought in for the welfare of the children. Zander was returned to his father in Florida and Mindy was committed to a treatment facility to cope with her mental health issues.
McCready, 37, was found in her Heber Springs, Ark. home after the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office was called due to neighbors hearing gunshots around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. She died from an “apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to Arkansas News. Officers found the body on McCready’s front porch where she was pronounced dead on the scene.
Mindy was a gifted child, graduating high school at 16. She quickly fell into a full-time music career and released her first record in 1996, “Ten Thousand Angels,” which sold 2 million copies. Her follow-up albums failed causing her to be dropped from her record label; starting a downward spiral of addiction. In December 2008 she had a failed suicide attempt after serving thirty days in prison for a probation violation.
