Think manners and etiquette are no longer relevant in today’s society?

Try telling that to the 211 California State University, Chico students who attended an etiquette dinner sponsored by Enterprise Rent-a-Car and Gallo Sales Company on Tuesday, March 23, in the Chico State Bell Memorial Student Union. Students were joined by nineteen members of Chico State staff and faculty.

The attending students were planning on getting a jump start on their postgraduate careers by learning a few helpful etiquette skills. Projecting competence and confidence in business and dining occasions was the main goal of the dinner.

According to the CSU, Chico Web site, “Sharyn Amoroso, who has been teaching etiquette at corporations such as Chevron, Merrill Lynch, and Motorola for sixteen years, showed the attendees a wide variety of etiquette best practices ranging from what forks to use during dinner to how to handle mishaps like spilling water on a client’s shirt.”

Students are said to have learned things that never crossed their minds before and also reported that they would feel much more confident and at ease in a professional business dining situation after having attended the event.

The dining event was organized and hosted by the Chico State Career Center and the Associated Students.
