Nicki Minaj dropped the first single off of her upcoming album on Wednesday May 21,2014. The Doctor Luke produced song is called Pills N Potions. The album, ‘The Pink Print’ is set to release sometime later this year. Minaj has been teasing the album since last November when she told HipHop DX that she “needed to start over” and was bringing a whole other sound to the table for her fans, and even her haters. Nicki told the hip-hop magazine in 2013, “I'm really excited, and the people that have been working with now have been people that I haven't worked with before, so it's like they're bringing a new sound to the album that I've never experimented with."
Dr. Luke has produced such hits as Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You, Miley Cyrus‘ “Wrecking Ball” and Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl.” Needless to say, Dr. Luke knows a thing or two about what it takes to have a smash hit. The producer working with Minaj isn’t as much of a step out the box for him as it is for Nicki. Pills N Potions is a step further into the pop world for Minaj. The lines are all pretty blurred at this point genre wise as it is. Hip-hop and rap has become popular music, as collaborations across genres continue to become hits. Just ask Dr. Luke about Miley Cyrus‘ success with collaborations and crossovers on her album Bangerz.
Expect to see a softer, more relatable Nicki on ‘The Pink Print,‘ and if you haven’t yet, definitely give Pills N Potions a listen!
