Festivals happen year round in Milwaukee; SummerFest, Irish Fest, German Fest, Festa Italiana to name a few. This year, after a 10-year absence Winter Fest returns to Milwaukee. From December 21st through to New Year’s Eve the Frontier Airlines Center will host what the city fathers hope will become a yearly family tradition.
Winter Fest kicks off with Read It To Beat It where 5,000 students from area schools will read for 30-minutes with Green Bay Packer Ryan Grant and Milwaukee Brewer Craig Counsell. Milwaukee students are trying to break the Guinness World Record of 4,222 students that is held by Nigeria.
Winter Fest is a one-stop destination for holiday family entertainment. Young children (and the child at heart) will enjoy train rides around the giant Christmas tree, activities in the Winter Fest Village, cookie decorating and face painting, playing in Candyland Village, riding the carousel, or trying their science skills with the hands on things at the Discovery World Design It Lab.
Older kids, teens and adults can strap on ice skates and take some twirls around the rink, test their strength on the rock climbing wall, sink a putt on the mini-golf course , or get their adrenaline rush bungee jumping or riding the giant slide. They can rock to the music of Winter Jam with Night Storm and contestants from the Milwaukee’s Got Talent competition.
As with other Milwaukee festivals, food takes center stage here. The aromas of German sausages sizzling, soups, fresh baked pastries and hot cocoa are bound to whet your appetite.
Get out and enjoy Winter Fest in the city of superior festivals, Milwaukee.
