The Milwaukee Strider Half Marathon is an enjoyable race. In the past there were 200 to 300 entrants running. This year the entry spiked to about 1000 runners! There are three main benefits to this race.
1. AFFORDABLE: The entry fee for the half marathon is only $28 for non Badgerland Strider members, and $24 for members. This is an affordable half marathon for all racers!
2. BEAUTIFUL RACE ROUTE: Racers travel through Estabrook Park in Milwaukee. It is almost entirely on a paved park route, keeping off busy roads. The route is mostly shaded by the big beautiful trees. It's the ultimate running experience with a shaded path, off busy roads, water/ Gatorade along the way, supporting runners and fans for the entire 13.1 miles!
3. WELL ORGANIZED: Packet pick up was low maintenance on the day of the race. The volunteers made it easy by making sure everyone made it through the packet pick up lines quickly and smoothly. At the beginning of the race, everyone gathered at the start, the national anthem was sung, and the racers were off! At the end, I was immediately handed the finishing medal and encouraged to enjoy water, food, and beer at the after race party!
This race is not chip timed. So if you are a nut about chip timing, this race is not for you. If they choose to do chip timing in the future it will definitely increase the cost of this race. Part of me loves this race for its old school hometown feel. It is so affordable compared to most half marathons. By keeping costs low, it allows more runners to enter and enjoy racing without the expensive race fees!
Overall, this race is a no hassle, affordable half marathon for anyone looking to get out and enjoy the running community!
