Summerfest is taking a cue from American Idol with their announcement of the Emerging Artists Series, where fans can use their cell phones to vote for their favorite new band. Four bands will play each day (at 3:00, 4:15, 5:30, and 6:45 p.m.) on the U.S. Cellular® Connection Stage with Leinenkugel's and FM 102.1 during the eleven day run of Summerfest 2010. Fans can text for their favorite bands, and the band with the most texts at the end of day will win a music prize package valued at almost $3,000.

Starting today, fans can also vote for favorite songs from the bands by logging on to Sonic Bids.com. Fans that log onto the site will have the ability to learn a little bit more about each artist and then listen to one of their songs. A simple click will allow fans to cast their vote. The eleven bands that receive the highest number of votes will have their song on an Emerging Artists Series CD, which will be available at Summerfest. Voting ends on Friday, May 21st and fans can vote once per day for their favorite bands.

Competitions such as this have become even more popular since the emergence of American Idol, which is currently in its ninth season. Last year, Milwaukee's Danny Gokey made it to the top three of the competition, which helped kick-start his professional music career. Gokey will play at Summerfest on July 4th at the Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard stage.
