One of the most exciting things about the Milwaukee Film Festival is the Opening Night Party. Yesterday morning, Aug. 22, Milwaukee Film released details for the event which is to take place on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Discovery World.
The main event of the Opening Night Party is the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble's Milwaukee debut. This Chicago-born, New York-based brass band consists of legendary jazz trumpeter Phil Cohran's eight sons and has performed with a number of musical celebrities, such as Mos Def, Gorillaz, Prince, and legendary Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen. The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble also appears in the Milwaukee Film Festival in the Sound Vision documentary, "Brothers Hypnotic".
Other Opening Night entertainers include Evan Christiansen, DJ Bizzon (WMSE 91.7FM), members of the Florentine Opera, Dead Man's Carnival, DJ Madhatter (88Nine Radio Milwaukee), and visuals from Video Villains.
Party-goers will receive two free drinks, light appetizers, popcorn, and a chance to win raffle prizes. Such prizes include an annual Milwaukee Film Membership at the Film Director level (which includes a 2013 festival pass and 6-pack of vouchers), $500 worth of gift cards courtesy of the MOJOFUCO restaurant group (Bel Air Cantina, Balzac, Fuel Café, HiHit, etc.), and a Packer Party for 30 at Maxie's Restaurant.
Last year's VIP Experience was such a success that Milwaukee Film is also offering a chance to enjoy the newly named Red Carpet Experience. The Red Carpet Experience includes reserved seating at the film and valet parking at both the Oriental Theater for the film and at Discovery World for the party. Those indulging in the Red Carpet Experience will also have access to their own private area at Discovery World, featuring hors d'ouevres, an open open bar, and a silent auction with all proceeds benefiting Milwaukee Film.
The Opening Night Party and Opening Night Film are free with a festival pass, otherwise tickets go on sale Sept. 11 for Members or the following day for the General Public. The Opening Night Party is $35 for General Public and $25 for Members. The Opening Night Film/Party Combo is $50 for General Public and $40 for Members. Tickets for the special Opening Night Red Carpet Experience, however, are currently on sale for $200 at http://mkefilm.org/redcarpet or by calling (414)755-1965 x212.
The full festival line-up and schedule will be officially released at the Milwaukee Film Official Program Book Launch on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the East Town Farmer's Market in Cathedral Square Park.
