From Blackout Wednesday to Thanksgiving to Black Friday, this week is full of busy days surrounding fun. If you need a few ideas of what is going around town this week and this weekend, here are a few choices for you.
Slipknot and Stone Sour singer/songwriter Corey Taylor will be at The Rave doing a solo set on Blackout Wednesday, November 23rd. Taylor released his first book, "Seven Deadly Sins", earlier this year and became a New York Times Best Seller. Expect an acoustic music session, spoken word, and a special question and answer section for the crowd. Show starts at 8pm.
Hard rock group Halestorm will be performing in Kenosha at the Brat Stop on the 23d with Guns and Roses opening act Adelitas Way and Ozzfest veterans Black Tide. Halestorm climbed the charts with their singles, "It's Not You" and "I Get Off" back in 2009. Doors are at 7pm and is a 21+ show.
DJ Steve Aoki will be at The Rave on Thanksgiving evening. Steve is known for his relentless touring and remixes for artists such as Drake, Lenny Kravitz, Snoop Dogg, and Robin Thicke. Expect a great dance party and a chance to burn off all the calories consumed earlier in the day. Doors are at 8pm.
Local Milwaukee group .357 String Band will be performing one of their last shows at Turner Hall on Friday, November 25th. The group, known for their 'streetgrass' sound, has toured across the United States and the world in their seven year existence. Show up to this concert and support a group that helped to put Milwaukee music on the international map. Doors are at 7:30pm.
Beats Antique will hit up Turner Hall Ballroom Saturday, November 26th at 8pm. Beats Antique mix Middle Eastern styles with orchestral gypsy music, hip-hop, downtempo, glitch, and dubstep for a sound completely their own. If you want to hear an original group with a new sound, check this group out.
Join Kenny Rodgers for an evening of Christmas and hits will at the Riverside Sunday, November 27th at 7pm. Don't miss Rodgers performing songs from "Let It Snow" to "Lady" in one performance. Rodgers recently released, “The Love of God", a collection of Rodger's favorite inspirational childhood songs. The album is exclusively sold in Cracker Barrel restaurants.
Post-hardcore legends Thursday will be at Turner Hall on the 27th with openers Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. Formed in 1997, the group went on to become one of the most popular bands of the early-2000's. In April, the band's latest album, "No Devolución", was released. Doors open at 7pm.
I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, a healthy Blackout Wednesday, and an injury free Black Friday.
