The first Saturday of June each year, as designated by the American Hiking Society, is dedicated to bring together those hiking and outdoor lovers throughout America. The 19th annual celebration of National Trails Days for 2011 is June 4. It celebrates and honors America’s trail systems, supporters and volunteers. Events around the country include activities involving hiking, biking, bird watching, running and even trail maintenance.

Come celebrate with fellow outdoor/hiking enthusiasts in Milwaukee. Meet before 10 am on June 4, 2011 at the Gordon Park parking lot located on the corner of Humboldt Avenue and Locust. A leisurely hike/walk is planned to celebrate the riverfront trails. Hike the Beerline trail loop for approximately 2.5 miles along the Milwaukee River. This trail meanders through Gordon, Riverside and Caesar’s Park.

Parking for the event is available in the Gordon park lot. Dress for a leisurely walk. Bring water and a snack and mosquito spray.

The American Hiking Society, since 1976, remains the only national, recreation based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting America’s hiking trails and their surroundings as well the hiking experience itself. For more information visit www.americanhiking.org.
