Milpitas, CA (November 6) -- The City of Milpitas will honor the country's service men and women who served, and are still serving, the country for the cause of freedom, according to Renee Lorentzen of the City's Parks and Recreation Services Department, sponsor of the celebration.
"Please join us in appreciating our veterans while enjoying words from Mayor Jose Esteves and witnessing the presentation of the City of Milpitas Patriotic Employee Award," Lorentzen said.
The veterans will be honored on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park located at 455 E. Calaveras Boulevard, Milpitas. A light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

Meanwhile, recognizing the contributions of the veterans in the city, the City Council created the Veterans Commission on December 1, 2009 as its advisory body for veterans affairs. It consists of seven regular commissioners plus two alternate commissioners with a term of three years. All commissioners are appointed by the mayor whose appointments are confirmed by the City Council in one of its regular sessions.
The commission consists of honorably discharged US veterans or still actively serving any branch of the US Army.
Denny Weisgerber is the chair of the commission and Juan Samano is the vice chair. Other commissioners are Dana Arbaugh, Bruce Choy, Arthur Ebright, David Grundstrom, and Mel Hinshaw. Lilian Ramos and Eladio Aoalin are alternate commissioners.
