Milos Raonic upset top-seeded Fernando Verdasco to win the SAP Open men's singles championship on Sunday, February 13, 2011 in San Jose, CA in straight sets 7-6, 7-6, winning both sets in the tie breaks. Raonic advanced to his first ATP tour final and used his big serve to topple Verdasco.
Verdasco, the defending champion, advanced to the final by defeating Juan Martin del Potro 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals. He also defeated Rajeev Ram in the first round, Ivo Karlovic in the second round, and Denis Istomin in the third round of the tournament.
Raonic advanced when second-seeded Gael Monfils withdrew due to injury. He also defeated Xavier Malisse in the first round, James Blake in the second round, and Richard Berankis in the third round of the tournament.
Both Verdasco and Raonic went through the early rounds of the tournament without losing a single set, and Raonic needed tie breaks to beat the defending champion.
