Million Dollar Quartet set for April at the Majestic Theatre

The national tour of the Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet is coming to the Majestic Theatre in April and tickets go on sale this Friday January at 10a.m. This Tony Award winning musical is inspired by the true story of the famous recording session that brought together rock and roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.

Million Dollar Quartet is a jukebox musical written by Floyd Mutrux and Colin Escott. It chronicles the famous recording session that brought together these music icons for the first and only time on December 4, 1956 in Memphis, Tennessee.

It starts with Carl Perkins meeting with newcomer Jerry Lee Lewis to record some songs. Johnny Cash is there to talk to Sam Phillips who wants to re-sign him to a new contract. As each member of the quartet enters he sings a verse of one of his most famous songs after which Phillips explains to the audience how he discovered each one. Musical numbers include “Blue Suede Shoes," "I Walk the Line" and "Great Balls of Fire."
