Millie's -- an affordable new Nantucket family restaurant in Madaket

Millie's opened Wednesday in the old Westender building at the end of Madaket Rd. Offering Quesadilla, fish,  beef, chicken, shrimp and fried clam tacos as well a wonderful sounding Po Boys, this restaurant looks at last like the winning combination for a restaurant steps from the Madaket beach.

Millie's is, of course, named after Madaket Millie,  the first honorary female member of the Coast Guard, and described in a charming children's book by Frances Ward Weller, and whose house was across the road from the new restaurant.

According to owner Bo Blair and co-owner and chef David Scribner, the restaurant should attract islanders, visitors, families with children. And, Blair noted, the big surprise is that they offer the same level of cuisine as the rest of the island at half the price. All entrees are under $20, with clam and shimp Po Boys only $12-$14 ( fresh lobste ones are $18).

They also offer take-out sandwiches at lunch for under $12, as well as salads and kid's plates (turkey, PB&J and cheese quesadilla.)

Finally, their take-out window offers fat free tart frozen yogurt with toppings that include Bartlett Farm fresh fruit.

Blair and Scribner are partners in other restaurants in the DC area, but their contribution to Nantucket looks like a terrific new addition to informal island food. Welcome and good luck!

Pictures of their menu and of the interior are shown in the slide show below. The internal pictures are courtesy of Chef David Scribner. Their menu is now also on their web site.
