As a thank-you to the community, Miller Park Zoo is offering free admission on Fridays in February. Come to the zoo on Feb. 8, 15 or 22, and see the exhibits at no cost.
Miller Park Zoo features animals from around the world. Popular areas of the zoo include the Sumatran tiger, river otter, bald eagle, sea lion and sun bear exhibits. The Tropical America Rainforest features plants, birds and other tropical organisms, and the Wallaby WalkAbout contains animals native to Australia. The Children's Zoo offers kids an up-close experience with farm animals, and children will also enjoy the hands-on activities in the ZooLab building.
Animal feedings are a daily feature at the zoo. Sea lions and river otters are fed each day at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tiger, leopard, gibbon and bear feedings take place at 4 p.m. daily. These feedings are included with zoo admission. The budgie birds are fed at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.; there is a $2 fee to watch this feeding.
Central Illinois homeschool families will enjoy a field trip to the zoo, and the Free Fridays in February event is a good opportunity to experience all the zoo has to offer. Call 309-434-2250 for information about the free admission days. Miller Park Zoo is located at 1020 S. Morris Ave., Bloomington, Ill. The zoo is open daily from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
