On Saturday, September 14, 2013, Georgi Karakhanyan, who trains at Millennia Mixed Martial Arts in Rancho Cucamonga, fought Wayne Lowe, a former Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter, at the World Series of Fighting 5: Arlovski vs. Kyle. The event took place at the Revel Resort and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The fight between the two featherweight fighters, Karakhanyan and Lowe, lasted only one round. In the beginning of the first round, Karakhanyan threw a high kick, which Lowe blocked. Throughout the round, Karakhanyan effectively used low kicks to control the fight. After Karakhanyan landed numerous leg kicks to Lowe’s lead leg, Lowe decided to shoot for a takedown. As Lowe shot in for the takedown, Karakhanyan grabbed a guillotine choke and pulled guard to get more leverage. It did not take much time before Lowe tapped to an arm-in guillotine choke. The official time of the fight was 3:37 of the first round.
In the post-fight interview, Karakhanyan said, “I think I performed well. I would like to showcase my standup more, but if it goes to the ground, I’m always looking for a finish. If you step into this cage, I’m going to finish you. I’m a finisher.”
