Two prospects in the UFC flyweight division battled for three rounds at UFC Fight Night- Brown vs. Silva. The event took place at the US Bank Arena in Cincinatti, Ohio. Darrell Montague, who trains at Millennia MMA in Rancho Cucamonga, fought Japan's Kyoji Horiguchi for three rounds and lost by decision.
In the first round, Montague landed a takedown, but Horiguchi managed to stand up. Horiguchi tried to use his karate to hurt Montague, but he did not damage Montague much in the opening round.
In the second round, Montague attempted a standing arm triangle choke, but Horiguchi slipped out of the submission. Montague then grabbed a guillotine choke and jumped guard. Horiguchi pushed Montague into the fence and fought his way out of the guillotine choke. Later in the round, Horiguchi stopped a takedown and dropped Montague with a knee. Horiguchi tried to finish Montague with ground and pound, but Montague fought to get to his feet. Horiguchi picked up Montague and slammed him to the ground. Montague got to his feet again, but Horiguchi punished him with punches. When the horn signaled the end of the round, the referee got between Horiguchi and Montague, who was struggling to stay standing after taking Horiguchi's punches.
In the third round, Horiguchi effectively used his karate to hit Montague. Montague went down, and Horiguchi landed some ground and pound. The round ended with Horiguchi and Montague trading punches.
Horiguchi won the fight by unanimous decision.
