On Saturday, March 23, (GCSU) Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville-- 45 minutes northeast of Macon-- will host the 4th Annual Job and Career Forum at GCSU's Arts and Sciences Building.
This free event will commence at 8:30 in the morning and will run until four o'clock in the afternoon.
This job fair is touted as the largest in Central Georgia and organizers are hoping to attract people who are currently unemployed or employed people who are searching for a better job situation.
Classes will be held that target specific areas such as interviewing skills, job retention, and resume writing .
Workshops will begin at 9 am and continue until noon. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with potential employers from the Middle Georgia area and to engage in scheduled mock interviews from 1 to 4 pm.
According to the Georgia Department of Labor, the Middle Georgia Region Unemployment rate is 9.3 percent.
The Middle Georgia Region consists of the following counties: Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jones, Monroe, Pulaski, Peach, Putnam, Twiggs and Wilkinson counties.
Overall, the Peach State's unemployment rate is 8.7 percent. However, most parts of Central Georgia have unemployment above the state's average.
Central Georgia's largest city, Macon, has an unemployment of 9.4 percent.
One exception is Warner Robins -- home of Robins Air Force Base-- with a unemployment rate is 7.7 percent.
According to a FOX News report:
...."Despite the Obama administration's doomsday warnings about the impact of sequester, hiring picked up last month as the unemployment rate fell to the lowest level in four years.
The February jobs report released in early March showed the economy added 236,000 jobs, bringing the unemployment rate to 7.7 percent from 7.9 percent the month before..."
The job fair is sponsored by the Central Georgia Democratic Coalition in cooperation with the Georgia Department of Labor and Young Democrats of America Georgia College & State University.
