The issues were detecting during a New York Department of Agriculture and Markets' milk inspection on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, when a failure of pasteurization equipment was discovered at the Menands milk plant. Proper pasteurization consists of heating milk to eliminate pathogenic bacteria, including salmonella and listeria. None of the recalled milk has been determined to be contaminated thus far. No related illnesses have been reported. The recall is being conducted as a precautionary measure.
Consumers are advised to return the recalled milk to the place of purchase or discard it even if it does not appear or smell spoiled. Contact Midland Farms directly at 518-436-7038 for additional information.
